Mr Mark J Flowers qualified at St Mary’s Hospital Medical School, University of London in 1984.

His orthopaedic surgery training was undertaken in London (RNOH), the West Midlands and South Yorkshire. He undertook a Fellowship in paediatric orthopaedic and trauma surgery in Canada at the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto in 1997.  He took up his Consultant appointment in Sheffield in 1997.

Mr Flowers is based at Sheffield Children’s Hospital but also works in the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals with special interests in Foot and Ankle Surgery, Transitional care for Children and Young People and the Orthopaedic management of Neuromuscular Conditions.  He is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons, the British Society for Children’s Orthopaedic Surgery – serving as President 2016-2018, the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, the British Orthopaedic Sports Trauma and Arthroscopy Association and the British Orthopaedic Association.

Mr Flowers has a continued and active involvement in clinically-based research as honorary senior clinical lecturer at the University of Sheffield. He is a reviewer for peer-reviewed foot and ankle journals.  He is a member of the Yorkshire and Humber Clinical Senate Assembly, an advisor to NICE and to NHS England.  

Mr Flowers is currently the Clinical Director of Surgery and Critical Care at Sheffield Children’s NHSFT and the Clinical Chair of Thornbury Hospital, Sheffield.
