Wendy Hart – Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Facilitator
Wendy first came to Sheffield over 20 years ago from Pembrokeshire to begin her nurse training, and worked as a Clinical Nurse for a long time before deciding the time was right for a new challenge.
She said: “I have had a couple of jobs in other trusts but always end up returning to Sheffield Children’s, it’s like a family here.”
A couple of years ago, Wendy moved into our Education, Learning and Organisational Development team (ELOD) which encourages staff to learn new skills, support their needs and develop their careers. Recently Wendy stepped into her new role of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Facilitator.
Wendy said: “I have always had an interest in education, I want to make CPD feel accessible to everyone and be part of regular conversations in teams.
“We need to empower staff to gain access to the best education and development we can. This not only ensures or practice is evidence based for our patients, but shows staff we value them and want to support them in their career aspirations.”
As part of one of its three key aims – being a Brilliant Place to Work – Sheffield Children’s is trying to support staff to reach their potential, and Wendy is a big part of that.
“The great thing about CPD is it belongs to staff. They can be really creative about the sort of development they would like to undertake. We have some incredible staff and experience within the Trust and I hope to be able to use that incredible resource.”
Away from Sheffield Children’s, Wendy is kept busy by her grandson and a grumpy border terrier who loves a walk!
“Coming from a Welsh background – although I was actually born in Shropshire I still say I’m Welsh by choice! – I’ve also got a love of rugby, and I’m interested in the environment and gardening.
“I’m lucky to work with such a welcoming team who put personal development and looking after team members at the heart of what they do. I’ve got lots to learn but feel very well supported.”
